The Journey to my “Creative Place” …
I’ve been sketching since I was very young, sitting on my parents back porch or at the kitchen table drawing for hours. The youngest of three, my mother had me at the age of 43. My brother and sister were 10 and 14 years older. So as you can imagine as excited as I was about my drawings, everyone else was either too busy or too tired to share my enthusiasm. But I persevered …
We Can Spread Our Wings at Any Stage of Life
I continued my creative journey throughout my life, always drawing & painting portraits, many drawing and painting classes, art projects through school, work and in life. And of course growing up in the Chicago area, my dream was always to attend the Chicago Art Institute. But, as it sometimes does, life took me in other directions and I never pursued a “formal” art education.
I did work as an art apprentice at an art studio on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. Peering over the shoulders of seasoned, magnificent artists and illustrators, watching them closely as they worked was, to me, a great adventure and learning experience. Later on I worked as a graphic artist/illustrator.
So fast forward to 2017. I am retired from corporate life where my ability to communicate and write had led me to a career as a corporate writer and communications director. Now that I’m in my next phase of life I have again become excited about my art and my writing.
This site was created to showcase my portraits in oil and graphite, figurative work, abstract/contemporary pieces, as well as blogs and ebooks.
Up to this point in life I have not been a career artist, but I believe we can spread our wings at any stage of life. I’m grateful to now be able to spend my time designing a life where I can live, work and play in my “creative place.”
Hope to be able to share my creative work with you for years to come.
Join my Facebook page at ArtisticElements, as well as Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. I look forward to connecting with you.
As an artist, when I sell my art its so gratifying to know that others are appreciating my work. So for information on owning a portrait in oil or graphite, take a look at my Pricing and Commissions page. My ultimate goal is for YOU to have MY work hanging on YOUR walls. So please feel free to ask me anything and let me know what you have in mind. I would love to talk with you.
“Be brave enough to live life creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You can’t get there by bus, only by hard work and risk and by not quite knowing what you’re doing. What you’ll discover will be wonderful − what you’ll discover will be yourself.” – Alan Alda
